Scott City woman charged with child neglect, abuse

BENTON, Mo. -- A woman has been charged with child abuse and is being held at the Scott County Jail.

Crystal Dawn Kennedy, 35, of Scott City is charged with abuse or neglect of a child and second-degree domestic assault, both felonies, according to a news release from Sheriff Rick Walter.

A deputy was sent to the woman's home Tuesday afternoon to follow up on an abuse report from the state Department of Social Services, with an investigator from the department's Family Support Division. They observed signs of injuries on the child's head.

Kennedy was arrested and advised of her rights, but refused to talk, according to the release.

Kennedy's bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.
