A traffic stop for speeding June 25 in Scott City has landed four men in Pemiscot County Jail on suspicion of robbery and armed criminal action.

In the early morning of June 25 Scott City patrol officer Randy Sloan stopped a vehicle traveling 108 miles per hour on Interstate 55. According to the Scott City Police Department, Sloan smelled marijuana when he approached the car and subsequently searched the vehicle with assistance from the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

Police said they found a small amount of marijuana, and $15,000 in cash. Police believe that money came from a robbery in Caruthersville, Mo.

The four men -- Carl D. Simon Jr., 19, of Columbia, Mo.; Robert Bernard Walker, 19, of Columbia; Melvin Brown, 18, of New Orleans, and Jeremiah Ezekiel Brown, 21, of Columbia -- were arrested at the stop.

After taking the men to jail, Scott County police learned that the four men were suspects being sought in a home invasion robbery in Caruthersville.

Now all four face charges of robbery and armed criminal action in Pemiscot County. In addition, Walker has been charged with excessive speeding, driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana in Scott County, while Melvin and Jeremiah Brown were both charged with possession of marijuana in Scott County.

All four men await trial in Pemiscot County.
