SCOTT CITY -- Scott City officials plan to dedicate a monument built to honor area soldiers serving in the Persian Gulf War during a dedication ceremony Sunday at 2 p.m. at City Hall.
The monument, built by members of the Kiwanis Club, stands more than 10 feet high and will be a permanent fixture in front of City Hall until the war is over, said Don Roth of the club. The pyramid will also rotate, he noted.
"It will be turning constantly until the troops are safely home," he said.
The lighted monument, which is in the shape of a pyramid, contains the name, rank and branch of the military of 25 soldiers from the Scott City area now serving in the Gulf, Roth said.
Mayor Shirley Young said the city also plans to dedicate its new American flag and flagpole, which will also stand in front of City Hall.
The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
