SCOTT CITY -- Christmas is a time for helping neighbors and Scott City students are trying to do just that.
For many years, students and clubs at Scott City High School have collected toys and games for needy children in the community.
Several clubs are holding fund raisers to help with the toy drive, and student council members are organizing it, said John Helderman, student council sponsor.
Student council members will hold a roadblock Friday from 7:15-8:15 p.m. at the Interstate 55/Main Street intersection to collect donations.
Other clubs, like Future Business Leaders of America donates the proceeds from its annual candy cane sale to the toy drive. The Future Teachers Association is holding a winter dance to collect money.
Last year, students raised about $1,200 and would like to raise $1,300 this year, Helderman said.
In addition to the toys, many of the children will receive clothing from the Scott City Women's Club.
New toy donations can be delivered to the Scott City High School, 3000 Main St., before Dec. 16.
For more information, call the school at 264-2138 or city hall at 264-2157.
