SCOTT CITY SETS VOTE ON TRANSPORTATION TAX

SCOTT CITY -- Although it's not an election year, voters in Scott City will be going to the polls Nov. 7.

The Scott City Council unanimously authorized a special election at Monday's meeting.

The election will decide the fate of a half-cent transportation sales tax. It will be used exclusively for street improvements. The tax is expected to generate between $110,000 and 120,000.

If passed, the money would be used to complete paving projects and repair existing streets, City Administrator John Saxton said.

Because there isn't a state or county election scheduled on that date, the city must pay for the ballot printing. Costs are estimated at $800.
