Scott City police chief Don Cobb will be leaving the position he held for the past six years to take a new job overseas, he said Monday.

Taking his place will be Lt. David Leeman of the Scott City Police Department, Mayor Tim Porch said.

Leeman will serve as interim chief for now, Porch said.

"I think David will do a good job," he said.

Cobb said he is leaving to accept a more lucrative private security position, but declined to elaborate.

March will probably be his last month as chief, he said.

"I've been lucky enough to stand on the shoulders of giants," Cobb said of his time as chief.

Cobb said he would recommend Scott City to anyone, and described his tenure there as "wonderful."

"I'd stay here for another 60 years," Cobb said.

He's taking the new position because it presents a better opportunity for him to provide for his family and his retirement, he said.

His wife is also accepting a new job in the same location, Cobb said.

The police department will meet sometime soon to discuss Leeman's interim position, Porch said.
