SCOTT CITY -- Octoberfest will kick off fall in Scott City, replacing the annual Summerfest celebration.
The city's Parks Department Oct. 3 will host the one-day event, complete with parade, pony rides for the kids and live musical entertainment. The Octoberfest will take place in the Scott City Park.
The parade kicks off at 9 a.m. and begins at Baker's IGA parking lot. Following the parade, the Scott City High School pompon squad will perform accompanied by the high school band.
At 10 a.m., the first of five contests gets underway at the park, the Little Miss and Mister contest.
The Rose of Sharon gospel group will perform at 4 p.m., followed by the Miss Teen contest. Other performers include the Broadway Methodist Church Choir and square dancers.
Games include a free-throw contest, pumpkin carving contest and a scarecrow decorating contest. Sand volleyball also will take place at the park.
The midway will include a flea market, carnival concessions, pony rides, a petting zoo and demonstrations by the American Mountain Men.
The park is situated at the north end of Ruth Street. All entertainment is free and there are no parking or admission fees.
