Scott City OKs plan for revenue from sales tax

The Scott City Council passed a resolution at its Tuesday meeting that outlines how revenue from a one-quarter percent sales tax will be spent if voters approve its renewal Aug. 3.

Voters approved the tax in 1998 for fire department improvements.

If passed in the August election, the tax would also fund repairs to the building that houses city hall, the police department and the fire department, and repairs for the parks and public works department.

The city would also purchase railroad land along Main Street referred to as the caboose parking lot, and other railroad property along Main Street in order to expand the street and create a center turn lane.

In other business:

The council voted to participate in the Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, which will make the city eligible for financial assistance through the Bootheel Regional Planning and Economic Development Commission.

John Crail was sworn in as council member for District 2, replacing Larry Taylor.

Accepted a $25,500 bid for a used recycling vehicle; the city is buying the vehicle because it received a state grant in May. The city pays for 15 percent of the cost of the vehicle.

The city passed an ordinance prohibiting parking on the south side of Maple Street between the east side of Fourth and Sixth streets.
