SALEM, Mo. -- Bond for Robert L. Grant, 21, of Scott City was reduced in a bond hearing earlier this week, but so far Grant, accused of the July 17 murder of Chad Chaney, remains in the Dent County Jail.
Circuit Judge William Seay of the 42nd Judicial District ruled Monday on an order amending Grant's bond to $250,000 professional surety only, no cash. According to court records, conditions of Grant's bond are that Grant will live with his mother in Dent County and be placed on an electronic monitoring program at his expense. He shall report once a week to the Dent County Sheriff's Department and shall submit to alcohol or drug testing at that time or any other time determined by the department.
According to a spokesman for the Dent County circuit clerk, as of Wednesday no one has posted Grant's bond and he remains in jail. His attorney, Jacob Zimmerman of the public defender's office, did not return a request for comment.
Grant was arrested July 17 following an altercation in an area known as Red Gate outside Scott City. He had allegedly stabbed Chaney who died of his injuries, and allegedly attacked three others, Josh Crowden, Josh Howell and Jeremy Curd, all of Scott City. Grant was also reportedly injured in the melee.
He was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and four counts of first-degree assault.
A grand jury indicted Grant Aug. 30, and his bond was set at $500,000. Grant remained in the Scott County Jail until Sept. 14, when a change of venue to Dent County was granted.
Grant is scheduled for a jury trial May 25 in Dent County.
