Cape Girardeau County Circuit Court issued an order for Larry Tanner, 28, of Scott City to appear for arraignment at 9:30 a.m. Monday on one count of receiving stolen property after an officer allegedly found him with a change machine taken from Jackson.

A probable-cause statement from Scott City officer Blake Leadbetter said he suspected Tanner of burglary, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest April 5.

Leadbetter was sent to 802 Fifth St. East in Scott City for suspicious activity; he knew from the address the owner was incarcerated. Upon arrival, he saw a black Dodge Ram truck that was not the owner's vehicle backed up to the front door.

Leadbetter heard activity inside the home and stepped inside, where he saw several tools and what appeared to be a change machine on the living-room floor, with change and cash strewn around. Tanner was found in a closet in the home and detained.

Dispatch advised Leadbetter the Jackson Police Department had reported a change machine stolen, with two suspects identified. The machine's owner, Chugg Crites, estimated its value at $6,500.

A second suspect, Charles Eric Depauw, 32, of Cape Girardeau later was taken into custody. He possessed a variety of cash and coins with a total value of $178.25.

Depauw also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest when he reportedly fled after crashing a stolen truck March 28 on Beaudean Lane, according to the probable-cause statement from Cape Girardeau officer Josiah Mehl. The officer made contact with two men sitting in a truck near Hickory Street and Giboney Avenue. According to Mehl, Depauw gave Mehl a fake name, birth date and Social Security number. After Mehl checked the number, Depauw sped away before crashing into a ditch and running away. Methamphetamine was found when the truck was searched.

Depauw faces trial in Scott County Court in June on charges of two counts of burglary, attempted burglary, two counts of property damage, receiving stolen property, tampering with a motor vehicle and misdemeanor assault.
