An explosion at a Scott City area residence Thursday morning destroyed the second floor of the nearly 100-year-old home, but injured no one. An explosion at a Scott City area residence Thursday morning destroyed the second floor of a nearly 100-year-old home, but injured no one.

Owner Mark McClellan discovered the explosion and subsequent fire at his home at 1725 Hilleman St. just outside Scott City and was able to rescue his dog from inside the residence. No one else was home at the time.

Five local fire departments originally responded to the emergency around 11 a.m. An additional three departments were called in due to high temperatures impacting the emergency workers already on the scene.

While the cause of the explosion is unknown, McClellan said a window air conditioner from the second floor was blown off the house.
