SCOTT CITY -- Tourism projects are right on track -- railroad tracks, that is -- for the Scott City Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber president Shirley Young hopes to use a $1,500 grant to promote tourism in Scott City.

Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. recently donated $1,500 to the city for a project of that kind.

To promote tourism and get people into the community, Young hopes to convert a train caboose into a museum.

"The entire community can be involved," said Young. She said that students and other civic clubs would be asked to help with the project.

Although no plans are definite, the chamber has been studying the possibility of converting a railroad caboose into a museum for visitors.

Because Scott City began as a railroad town, Young is confident that people would be interested in a museum.

"We already get people in town to watch the trains," she said. "There's no end to what we can do."
