The Future Business Leaders of America at Scott City High School had a strong showing at this year's state conference in Jefferson City.

In "The American Enterprise Project" category, Scott City submitted a report on the Buy Local Campaign and received first place for it. The report was compiled by Brandon Raines and Jenny Page. The students and their report qualify for national competition at this summer's National FBLA Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

Others receiving state awards were Shanna Froggatt, sixth place in community service project; Michelle Keesee, eighth place in Ms. FBLA; Paul Kester, ninth place in information processing concepts; Joey Ruth and Tonya Thompson, 10th place in local chapter annual business report; and Ralf Emerson, 10th place in Who's who in FBLA.

Two chapter awards were also received by Scott City's FBLA. Reach Out and Care is an award presented to chapters that have a service project to benefit families or individuals in the community. The group also received the Award of Merit, which is given to no more than 15 percent of the chapters in the state that have outstanding programs and projects and that conduct business in a commendable manner.

In addition, Shirley Young, Scott City Chamber of Commerce president, received a special award for being nominated Businessperson of the Year by Scott City's FBLA.
