The Scott City Council will vote tonight on whether or not to authorize the purchase of a building for a new city hall.
The building, located at 215 Chester St., was once used as a Jehovah's Witnesses worship center and is owned by the Cape Girardeau South Congregation of the Witnesses.
City Clerk Cindy Uhrhan said Monday morning the building will be used as a new city hall because the city government has outgrown its current city hall on Main Street, which it shares with the police and fire departments. Scott City police and fire will remain in the current city hall.
The cost of the purchase is $159,000. The council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in the current city hall at 618 Main St. Read more about this issue online or in Tuesday's Southeast Missourian.
