SCOTT CITY -- A half-mile asphalt walking trail recently was built in the Scott City Community Park. The $13,000 fitness trail circles the park and will be dedicated officially in April, according to Penny Wingerter, park director.

"There are a lot of people who walk religiously there," Wingerter said. "The previous (unpaved) trail would wash out whenever it rained, so there are a lot of walkers who are really going to appreciate this trail."

The project was completed with funds donated to the city by the late W.C. Arnold and Lucy B. Arnold. Another $7,000 donated by the couple will go toward the purchase of playground equipment for the city, Wingerter said.

Until the dedication, the city is working on landscaping the area along the trail, she said.
