Today is the first day to enroll children in the Scott City Interactive Parks Program's third annual Thursdays Fundays summer program.
For three consecutive Thursdays beginning July 16, SCIPP will provide activities from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SCIPP is a community not-for-profit organization whose goal is to bring the community, organizations and resources together.
It is part of the Scott City Kiwanis Club in conjunction with the Scott City Parks Department.
One of the organizers, Paul Schock, said the event is chaperoned by SCIPP volunteers and uses Cape Girardeau Transit Authority buses to transport children ages 7 to 12 throughout the day.
Events include skating, going to the movies, playing in the park, swimming at Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center and the Scott City pool and playing at The Orange Monkey at West Park Mall.
Each day is $10 per child, and participants are asked to wear tennis shoes and bring a lunch.
The registration form and fees are due Monday at City Hall, 215 Chester Ave. in Scott City.
"It's all volunteer-based, and we just want to provide some fun," Schock said. "They bring their lunch, and we provide some snacks, and it just gives kids a chance to develop their social skills and keep them busy this summer. ... A lot of them are not used to doing things like this, and we made it $10 so that families can actually afford it."
