SCOTT CITY -- Businesses in Scott City will be recognized Tuesday for their contributions to the town's economy.
Business owners will be honored at a breakfast reception at City Hall beginning at 7:15 a.m.
"We're rolling out the red carpet to these business owners to show appreciation for the jobs they provide and the economic impact they have had on the area," said Mayor Shirley Young.
Three business will receive special recognition: Blair Industries will be honored for being the town's largest employer with 244 employees; Scott City Bank will be honored for 87 years in business; and T&H Transport will be honored for having the largest employee growth.
A new city directory will also be distributed to business owners. The directory was funded by a grant from Southwestern Bell. The grant also covers the cost of the breakfast reception.
Young said the directory will also be sent to prospective new business owners and to people who have moved to town.
"This is an excellent economic development tool to show where there is room for possible expansion," she said. "New people in the community will be able to see at a glance what is available to them in products and services."
About 300 copies of the directory have been printed.
