A number of science scholarships were presented at the College of Science and Technology honors program April 12 at Southeast Missouri State University.
Marta Retherford of Millersville was awarded a Betty Berry Glenn Science Scholarship, which goes to any high school graduate who is a major in any field of science. Retherford is a sophomore at Southeast majoring in human environmental studies with emphasis in diet.
Ryan Prince of Oak Ridge was awarded a S. David Nunley Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to chemistry majors or to pre-pharmacy students or those who have shown an interest in attending pharmacy school. Prince is a junior at Southeast majoring in chemistry.
Julie Kirchdoerfer of Cape Girardeau was awarded a John and Bess Harty Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to one or more sophomores who have demonstrated a sincere interest and ability in science. The field of candidates is narrowed to those having 45 to 75 hours of credit with at least a 3.5 grade-point average and to declared majors in the area of science. Kirchdoerfer is a sophomore at Southeast majoring in agribusiness.
Patricia LaForest of Cape Girardeau received a Donald H. Froemsdorf Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students majoring in any one of the disciplines within the College of Science and Technology. Academic merit is the prime consideration. LaForest is a sophomore at Southeast majoring in industrial technology.
Hope Wagner of Cape Girardeau received a William Avery and Helen Peyton Buckner Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in one of the natural sciences. An eligible candidate must have declared a major in any field of science and have a grade-point average of at least 2.5. Wagner is a senior at Southeast majoring in biology and pre-medicine.
Daniel Autrey of Cape Girardeau was awarded an Albert J. Weis Memorial Science Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to students majoring in any of the disciplines within the College of Science and Technology. Autrey is a freshman at Southeast majoring in chemistry.
Brandy Evans of Jackson received a Jack Miller Scholarship in biological sciences. The scholarship is awarded to students majoring in biological sciences or agriculture. An eligible candidate must have earned 60 semester hours and have demonstrated above average scholarship and leadership qualities. Evans, the daughter of Perry and Pam Evans, is a junior at Southeast majoring in agriculture with emphasis in animal science.
Kerrie Ticer of Jackson was awarded a Russell J. and Elnora Michel Mathematics Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a mathematics major exhibiting unusual interest in mathematics and possessing the capability of pursuing graduate work in mathematics. An eligible candidate must have a minimum 3.5-grade point average, be a mathematics major and have completed mathematics courses at least through the calculus sequence, and be recommended by a member of Southeast's math department. Ticer is a junior at Southeast pursuing a bachelor's degree in secondary education with emphasis in mathematics.
