Winners of the 44th annual Regional Science Fair were honored Thursday night at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. More than 200 projects from public, private and church schools throughout Southeast Missouri were entered in the competition. Participating students are in grades seven through 12...

Winners of the 44th annual Regional Science Fair were honored Thursday night at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. More than 200 projects from public, private and church schools throughout Southeast Missouri were entered in the competition. Participating students are in grades seven through 12.

The science fair is co-sponsored by the Southeast Missourian, Southeast Missouri State University, Drury Southwest and Hathaway Consulting.

The International Science and Engineering Fair winners are Amanda Busby and Kevin Lankheit. They will receive an all-expense paid trip to Detroit May 10 to compete in the 51st International Science and Engineering Fair. The top eight-grade exhibitor also attends as an observer.

Lankheit is a senior at Notre Dame High School in Cape Girardeau. His project was entitled: A Microscopic Analysis of the Effects of Aspartame on Euglena Gracilis. His teacher is Brad Wittenborn.

Busby is a junior from Kennett High School. Her project was entitled Glass III: Toward a Standard. Her teacher is Robert Gill.

The top eighth-grade junior division projects also are entered in the international fair via the Internet.
