Two Cape Girardeau buildings will be reviewed today by members of the city's historic preservation commission. They have been nominated for the National Register of Historic Places.
Brenda Schloss, a planning technician with the city, works with the historic preservation commission. Schloss said certification for the national register opens the door for federal and state tax credits toward the cost of restoration and preservation.
The Edward S. and Mary Annatoie Albert Lilly House, 129 S. Lorimier St., and the Louis J. Schultz School, 101 S. Pacific St., will be reviewed.
Historic preservationist Terri Foley and Dr. Steven J. Hoffman, Historic Preservation Program coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University, prepared the Lilly presentation. Preservation specialists Ruth Keenoy and Karen Bode Baxter worked on the Schultz School presentation.
It will be Sarah Stephens' first meeting as a new member of the commission.
The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at city hall, 401 Independence St. The commission's committees on landmarks, education and publicity will meet at 6:30 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.
