The elementary schools of the Cape Girardeau School District are now accepting kindergarten enrollment for the 1999-2000 school year. Parents may enroll at their child's assigned school between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

In April, the Cape Girardeau Board of Education approved new attendance area boundaries to coincide with the opening of Blanchard Elementary School in the next school year.

Parents who will be moving or who are unsure which attendance area they live in should contact their current school office or assistant superintendent David Giles at (573) 335-6654.

To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be 5 years old or have a birthday before July 31. Parents or guardians must provide the following documents: birth certificate; immunization record; Social Security card; proof of residency; and proof of guardianship, if living with other than natural parents.

Inquiries may be made to any elementary school or to the district board office, 61 N. Clark.

Following is a current list of school addresses, phone numbers and building principals. Note Washington and May Greene schools remain on the list through the end of the school year as registration sites.
