SCOTT CITY -- Two members of the Scott City Board of Education face challenges in their bids to win re-election Tuesday.

There will be few surprises in Tuesday's election for four seats on the Scott City Council.

Three councilmen and a member of the city's Police Personnel Board will face no opposition in their bids for seats on the council.

Councilmen Jim Cauble, Ward Two; Jerry Cummins, Ward Three; and John Smith, Ward Four, have filed for re-election. Brenda Moyers, a member of the police board and Chamber of Commerce, is the sole candidate for the Ward One seat vacated by Alvie Modglin.

Modglin, a former mayor and councilman, did not file for re-election.

This election marks Moyers' first bid for a council seat. The 21-year resident of Scott City is employed at Orthopaedic Associates in Cape Girardeau. Moyers said she will give up her seat on the police board when she takes a seat on the city council.

"I plan to take by responsibility very seriously," Moyers said. "My first priority will be to represent my ward fairly."

Cauble, who has also served as mayor, will be elected to his fourth term on the council. He is employed by Mercantile Bank of Cape Girardeau.

Cummins, who will win his third term on the board, is employed by the Drury Company of Cape Girardeau. Smith, who is also seeking a third term, is employed at the Cotton Belt Railroad.
