Filing starts today for many school board positions in the Cape Girardeau area.
Hopefuls may file through Jan. 21 at school district offices, and the election is scheduled for April 8.
In the Cape Girardeau School District, spots to be decided are those of board president Tony Smee, Stacy Kinder and Don Call. Kinder has said she will not seek re-election. Terms run for three years.
Office hours will be 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office, 301 N. Clark Ave., will be closed Dec. 23 through 25, 27, 30 and 31, and Jan. 1 through 3, according to a legal notice in the Southeast Missourian.
Positions up for election in Jackson are held by T. Wayne Lewis, Bruce Thomas and board president Terri Tomlin. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office, 614 E. Adams St., will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31 and Jan. 1.
In Oak Ridge, seats held by Scott Hahs, board president Linda Schoen and vice president Tom Schreiner are up for election. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday; the office, 4198 Route E, will be closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, reopening Jan. 6. From Jan. 6 through 10, hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the same hours Jan. 13 through 17. The last day of filing, Jan. 21, hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Filing for Nell Holcomb School Board candidates opens at 8 a.m. today and closes at 5 p.m. Jan. 21.
Three incumbents -- vice president Tammy Brock, Dan Windeknecht and treasurer Christie Shivelbine -- are up for re-election this year. In an email to the Southeast Missourian, superintendent Darryl Pannier said, "Christie Shivelbine has stated her intent not to seek re-election."
Candidates may sign up at the superintendent's office, 6547 State Highway 177, when school is in session. Offices will be closed at 3 p.m. Friday through 8 a.m. Jan. 6 for Christmas break, according to district information.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday. Filing continues from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 6 through 10; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 13 through 17 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21.
In Scott City, seats up for election in April are held by board president Scott Amick and board members Sally Porch and Daniel Lance. Office hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Jan. 20 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 21. The office, 3000 Main St., will be closed for Christmas break Dec. 20 through Jan. 3.
Seats opening on the Perry County District 32 School Board are held by G. Scott Cooper, Jeff Weibrecht and Scott Hotop. The board office in Perryville, Mo., is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will be closed from Dec. 23 through Jan. 6 for Christmas break.
