The League of Women Voters will hold a candidate forum Thursday for the Cape Girardeau Board of Education.

The forum begins at 7 p.m. at the Central Junior High School cafeteria.

Candidates for two three-year terms are Ed Thompson, Larry H. Trickey, R. Ferrell Ervin, Terry Taylor and Harold W. Hager.

Sandy Bonner of the League of Women Voters said four of the candidates are expected to attend. Trickey won't attend. Bonner will read a letter from Trickey.

Each candidate will have an opportunity to make a three-minute opening statement.

Then candidates will answer questions from the audience. Questions must be written and are presented to members of the league.

"We try to keep personalization out of it," Bonner said. "We're there to learn their views and opinions on issues."

The forum ends with candidates making two-minute closing statements.

Bonner said people can prepare questions before the meeting and can write questions during the forum.

The forum will be taped and will air on cable access. Dates for the broadcast haven't been set.

Usually, candidate forums last between 1 1/2 and two hours.
