JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri House member Shane Schoeller has declared victory in the GOP secretary of state primary.
Unofficial results from Tuesday's election show Schoeller leading by several thousand votes out of more than 547,000 cast. The vote appears close enough that a recount could be requested. Schoeller is the House speaker pro tem and was first elected to the Legislature in 2006.
Republican Sens. Scott Rupp and Bill Stouffer also were running for secretary of state.
Democratic House member Jason Kander won his primary against a little-known opponent.
