Schnucks reverses course, will allow bell ringers

ST. LOUIS — Salvation Army bell ringers will return to Schnucks stores this holiday season after all.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported the Maryland Heights, Missouri-based grocery chain is granting an exception to its no solicitation policy adopted in August, allowing Salvation Army volunteers and their red kettles to return to the grocery stores for the annual fundraising drive.

Salvation Army bell ringers have raised funds outside Schnucks stores for decades. The money is used to provide food and clothing for the homeless and needy.

The organization collected $478,000 in donations at Schnucks stores during last year’s bell ringing effort.
