Businesses in Cape Girardeau County received $1.87 million in Small Business Administration loans in the first three quarters of fiscal year 1991, more than any other non-metropolitan county served by the St. Louis SBA office. It covers the 54 counties in the eastern half of Missouri.

According to the office, six loans comprised the total amount, for an average of $311,000 per loan. The office said an additional 40 jobs were created by business expansions financed through the agency.

Other area counties include Scott, with three loans totalling $152,000 and creating six jobs, and Mississippi, with one loan of $71,300 that created three new jobs. No loans were recorded in Perry or Bollinger counties.

During the time period, the SBA approved 171 loans totalling $31.8 million in Eastern Missouri. One-fourth went to new businesses.
