The Salvation Army in Cape Girardeau is asking for the public's help in determining who stole a television from its Good Hope Street location over the weekend.

Vanessa Ray of the Salvation Army said the 50- to 60-inch VIZIO television was discovered missing Monday morning. It's the second television that has been stolen from the Salvation Army location this year.

A window in the Sunday school room was pried open and the screen cut out, Ray said. The television was used for presentations.

In an emailed statement Monday, Salvation Army Capt. Ronnie Amick said it hurts knowing someone would steal from an organization trying to give back.

"Because of our limited resources, it is important for us to reach out to the community and ask for help to find the person or people responsible for this," Amick said.

The theft was likely an "isolated occurrence" because "only one other break-in has happened in 2015, much earlier in the year," he said.

The earlier theft was of a television used to play a slideshow that showed photographs of what was happening throughout the Salvation Army, Ray said. The TV was not recovered.

Those with information about the latest theft are asked to contact the Salvation Army at (573) 335-7000.
