The Salvation Army's Loan-A-Fan program began last week to help people in need keep cool. Jackie Thieke, a case worker for the Salvation Army, said 26 fans were given away in the first three days. The Salvation Army's Loan-A-Fan program began last week to help people in need keep cool.

Jackie Thieke, a case worker for the Salvation Army, said 26 fans were given away in the first three days.

Thieke said that individuals eligible for a fan are senior citizens 60 years old or higher, families with children under five years of age or handicap individuals.

Thieke also said that persons in need of a fan need to bring proof of age, proof of age for children under five, and proof of income. Fans can be picked up from 1-4 p.m. on weekdays at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope.

This is the third year that the Salvation Army has run this program and according to Thieke: "We have a steady increase over the last three years in the number we give away."
