The Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign has raised $30,000 towards the goal of $100,000. The Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign has raised $30,000 towards the goal of $100,000.

"Donations through the mail and at the kettles are starting to slow down," said Bob Neff, chairman of the Tree of Lights. "I just want to let people know where we are. I am confident that the goal will be reached."

The campaign is scheduled to wrap up Christmas eve.

The funds raised at Christmas are used to purchase food for needy families, toys for children and gifts for nursing home patients. It is also used throughout the year for rental assistance, utility assistance, food vouchers, food orders, fans, school supplies, Meals with Friends and other Salvation Army programs.

Capt. Elmer Trapp reports that applications for Christmas assistance now total over 1,200 individuals. The last day to apply for the program is Dec. 13.

The Salvation Army is in need of canned food and new toys being distributed to needy families.

Items can be brought to the Salvation Army headquarters, 701 Good Hope. For more information, call 335-7000.
