Sales-tax holiday set for Aug. 2 through 4

Cape Girardeau County will participate in an annual back-to-school sales tax holiday Aug. 2 through Aug. 4. During those days, the county's 1 percent sales tax will be waived on purchases of items such as computers, school supplies and clothing. State statutes list specific items that fall under the tax exemption. The state also will waive its 4.225 percent tax during that weekend. County commissioners unanimously approved participation in the holiday during their meeting Thursday.
