It began as a polio support group in Miki Gudermuth's living room and now serves thousands of people with disabilities, giving them equal access to the rights and responsibilities that other citizens are provided.
SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence Foundation, Inc. is still growing. Groundbreaking for the new, nearly 10,000 square foot office complex, to house SADI in-home services, will take place noon on Friday at 1913 Rusmar.
"I am so excited, since we are overflowing staff in what offices we lease presently," said Gudermuth, executive director of SADI in Cape Girardeau, referring to her current office building in the South Broadview Plaza.
Over 51 percent of the current staff and board of directors have some form of disability and act as successful role models who give back and have direct impact on persons with disabilities, served by the center and to their community, according to Gudermuth.
