SCOTT CITY -- John Rogers and George Moit will vie for a two-year term on the Scott City Council in April. The two were elected Tuesday in a primary election in Ward 2.
Rogers, who is in his third term on the council, and Moit shared a ticket with Terry Gettings.
With only voters in Ward 2 casting ballots, Rogers received 29 votes and Moit 23. Gettings got three votes. There are about 600 voters in Ward 2.
A primary was necessary in Ward 2 because three candidates filed for the seat. A one-year term in that ward will also be filled in April.
Rogers served on the Illmo Board of Aldermen and on the Scott City Council since the consolidation. He was also a police judge for Illmo and is a past president of the Scott City Chamber of Commerce. He is a native of the town and has owned Rogers Repair Service for 12 years.
Moit is a retired railroad worker who has lived in Scott City for 10 years. He has not held a city office before.
Gettings, a plumber and volunteer fireman, was also making his first bid for a city office.
Candidates in the April 7 election for four other seats on the council are LaDonna Phelps in Ward 1; Edith Davidson and Kenny Holder for a one-year term in Ward 2; Ron Oller and Joe Bles for a two-year term in Ward 3; and Terry Johnston in Ward 4.
Candidates for mayor are Larry Forhan and Rodney Holloway. Mayor Shirley Young did not file for re-election.
