Cape Girardeau Police arrested a Wisconsin man Sunday in connection with a robbery at a clothing store. The suspect also led police on a chase through the city late Saturday night.
Ryan R. Garrison, 20, of 3465 N. 15th St., in Milwaukee, Wis., was arrested Sunday on Cape Girardeau warrants on charges of tampering with a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, misdemeanor stealing, making a false declaration, seven counts of failing to stop at a traffic light, and failing to drive on the right side of the road,
He had been arrested on a Wisconsin warrant for probation violation and held in the city jail following the chase. Bond was set at $25,000.
The original robbery call came at 10:30 p.m. Saturday and police spent 17 minutes chasing Garrison "all over town," said Cpl. Keith May of the police department.
Eventually, Garrison lost control of his vehicle and hit a pole. Police then blocked him in and made an arrest.
Garrison allegedly had been at the Goody's Family Clothing Store and bought cologne. When a cashier opened he register to make a sale, he grabbed some money and ran out of the store.
Donna Marshall, a Goody's manager, said "I was in the back and just coming up when it happened."
Once police arrived, employees offered a description of the suspect and the getaway car. Marshall recalled seeing the man in the store for a couple of hours before the robbery.
According to police reports, an officer spotted the suspect's car on Interstate 55 and a pursuit followed. The chase ended at William and Middle streets. The car in which the suspect fled also was reported stolen.
