When one driver honked his horn, the other allegedly responded by pulling a snub-nosed pistol.
Teah V. Newson, 36, of Sikeston, Missouri, was arrested Sunday by Cape Girardeau sheriff’s deputies and charged with felony unlawful use of a weapon.
Newson and another woman were driving at 2 a.m. west on Route K in a Lincoln Navigator next to a white GMC truck, according to a probable-cause statement from the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department.
The victims in the GMC truck said as the road merged from one lane to two, the Navigator forced the truck off the road, the report stated. The driver of the truck got back on the road and honked the horn at the Navigator.
Newson, who was driving the Navigator, reached into the back seat, pulled out a snub-nosed pistol and brandished it in their direction, according to the report. The victims said the passenger also waved a gun at them when the Navigator turned onto Forrester Drive, the report stated.
Deputies made contact with Newson and the other woman at an apartment on Forester Drive, according to the report. Newson denied running any vehicle off the road, and Newson and passenger denied brandishing a firearm in the direction of another vehicle, according to the report.
Deputies found a .380 pistol in a purse; Newson said it was her gun she regularly carries after she completed her concealed-carry class, the report stated. A concealed-carry permit records check revealed Newson did not have a permit to have a concealed weapon in Missouri.
Newson’s bond was set at $7,500, cash or surety, with the condition Newson may not possess any firearms.
