Missouri lawmakers, during their session that starts Wednesday, will consider whether to ask voters to approve a transportation funding increase.

During the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2001, here is how the nearly $1.2 billion in state transportation revenues were collected and distributed. The totals do not include federal money.

Transportation revenue

Motor fuel taxes -- $653.7 million, 56 percent.

Vehicle registration and drivers license fees-- $305.3 million, 26.2 percent.

Vehicle sales and use taxes: $205.8 million, 17.7 percent.

Transportation disbursements

Missouri Department of Transportation -- $710.1 million, 61 percent.

Other state agencies -- $195.8 million, 16.8 percent.

Cities -- $142.6 million, 12.2 percent.

Counties -- $106.7 million, 9.2 percent.

Constitutionally required tax refunds -- $9.6 million, 0.8 percent.
