POPLARBLUFF, Mo. -- Battling the early Wednesday morning storm proved difficult for Butler County road crews who found themselves with two road graders stuck in ditches.
"It's really treacherous. If you don't have to get out, stay home," advised Butler County Highway Department superintendent Bill Taylor. "We have been getting stuck ourselves."
The county highway department has 33 workers "using everything we have" to push the snow off the road, including 11 road graders, six snow plows and two spreader trucks.
All 28 workers in Poplar Bluff's street department were involved in the snow removal efforts.
The Butler County Courthouse was closed Wednesday except for the Collector's Office and the court system. Taxes also will be collected on today, but the rest of the courthouse will be closed. The entire Courthouse will be closed Friday
Poplar Bluff city offices were open Wednesday, but they will be closed today and Friday.
Dunklin County's Presiding Commissioner Don Collins arrived at the courthouse in Kennett early Wednesday to scoop snow off the steps, making access to the offices inside easier for visitors.
For Kennett residents the storm dropped a mixture of sleet and snow on the city.
