Limited edition commemoratives of Cape Girardeau's 200th birthday will be available at the city's Riverfest celebration Friday and Saturday.
Riverfest, held in downtown Cape Girardeau, features entertainment and activities for the entire family.
Corporate sponsors for Riverfest '93 include St. Francis Medical Center, Southwestern Bell Telephone, Fox 23 KBSI-TV and Capital Bank.
Martha Bender, chairman of Riverfest's Bicentennial Events committee, said the Cape Girardeau Bicentennial Commission has authorized sale of stamped Bicentennial postcards and enameled Bicentennial pins.
Both items will be available for sale at a booth operated by Bicentennial volunteers and volunteers from the Cape Girardeau Post Office. Bender said the Post Office will cancel cards and envelopes brought to their booth at the corner of Main and Themis streets with a special Bicentennial seal.
The Bicentennial cards, available for $1.25 each, can be canceled at no additional charge. Pins will also be sold at the booth at a cost of $5 each.
Bender said the special Post Office cancellation will be destroyed following Riverfest. "This is a great opportunity to have a lasting memento of Cape's 200 years on the Mississippi," Bender said. "We hope that Riverfest participants will take advantage of this special offering."
Both the card and the pin offered through the Bicentennial Commission feature Louis Lorimier and Louis Houck.
The Post Office booth will operate at Riverfest from 5-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
