The Mississippi River is expected to drop below flood stage early Wednesday, instead of late Tuesday, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.
A river flood warning for Cape Girardeau issued Monday said the river was expected to fall below its flood stage level of 32 feet by early Wednesday morning.
On Sunday, the weather service expected the river to fall below that level Tuesday.
The river crested at 44.53 feet, more than 12 feet above the flood stage level, on June 7.
Floodgates in downtown Cape Girardeau were opened last week.
