River Campus included in Congressional spending bill

WASHINGTON -- The $123 billion spending bill that funds education, health and labor programs includes more than half a dozen Missouri programs.

Dollar amounts will come later, but the list includes government dollars for a St. Louis University center for studying bioterrorism and emerging infections.

Part of the federal Centers for Disease Control, the St. Louis center provided training material for those responding to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., released the list of projects on Thursday, when the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the measure.

A similar bill was nearing approval of the full House, where Rep. Jo Ann Emerson, R-Mo., will shepherd Missouri projects with fellow House Appropriations Committee members.

The measure also includes funds for:

A river campus initiative at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.

Westminster College's Winston Churchill Center for Leadership. The Fulton school will use the money for a center for student voluntary action.

A global access library at Webster University in St. Louis.

Math and science re-sources for public schools at Southeast Missouri State.

The breast and cervical cancer project at Kansas City's Swope Parkway Health Center.

Library resources and continuing education at Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis.
