SIKESTON, Mo. -- At midday Tuesday, a barge allegedly struck the Mississippi River bridge connecting Caruthersville, Mo., to Dyer County, Tenn., the State Gazette reported.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed the Interstate 155 bridge; it will remain closed pending a Tennessee Department of Transportation inspection. The department will determine if the bridge is safe for travel.

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident and is expected to complete its report today.

No fatalities or injuries have been reported. There are no reports of pollution spills.
