The rifle and pistol ranges at the Apple Creek Conservation Area will temporarily close for upgrades. The ranges will close June 4 and are expected to remain closed until Sept. 15. However, they may reopen ahead of schedule if construction is completed early. Renovations will include raising the earthen bullet backstops 15 feet on three ranges, adding more shooting positions, incorporating target frames at seven and 15 yards and various safety features. The shotgun and archery ranges will remain open for public use. Those interested in shooting rifles or pistols during the closure will be able to use the Missouri Department of Conservation ranges in Bollinger, Wayne, Reynolds and Pemiscot counties. For more information, contact the Missouri Department of Conservation at 290-5730 or visit www.mdc.mo.gov.
