Revote in 150th District on hold

A revote in the 150th District House race between state Republican Rep. Kent Hampton of Malden, Mo., and Democrat Tom Todd of Campbell, Mo., has been postponed, according to representatives from the Dunklin County prosecuting attorney's office and Russell Oliver, Hampton's attorney.

The revote was called after elections officials said some voters in the 150th District and neighboring 152nd District were given the wrong ballots. Districts were rearranged this year through redistricting.

According to the uncertified preliminary election results, Hampton narrowly defeated Todd, 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent.

The election was scheduled to take place Tuesday in two precincts.

But according to Oliver, Dunklin County prosecuting attorney Stephen Sokoloff has filed a motion to reopen the evidence because County Clerk Carol Hinsely has discovered problems in a third precinct near Malden. Todd and his attorney, Daren Todd of Malden, also have filed a petition for a writ of prohibition with the Missouri Supreme Court, which is pending.
