Flu season is approaching and the government has recommended those at highest risk -- the elderly and small children, health-care providers and people with pre-existing illnesses -- get flu shots as soon as possible. Last week's online poll asked, "Do you plan to get a flu shot this year?" (434 votes)

48 percent: Yes, as soon as possible.

24 percent: No, not this year.

28 percent: Never had one, never will.

  • I just don't think I will be one of the people who get the flu ... and even if I do, I'll get over it.

The whole office called me a weanie when I wouldn't get the shot, and I was the only one of them not to get the flu -- 3 years in a row!

It doesn't help at all once you start to get a headache.

I wish I could find out where to get them.

Get the shot every year and haven't had flu for years.

I had my flu shot last week.

It's mandatory at work.

I had one a few years ago and I caught every bug that went around. I'm just going to eat healthy and exercise to keep from getting ill.

The news from the EU, involving that U.S. drug company, is enough to scare me off the flu shot now and into the future! IF I don't catch the flu and die!

I am a caregiver to my elderly mother but I guess I should not get a flu shot this year. What bothers me is if I get the flu, who will care for her?

In the last few years the only time I got the flu was the year I decided to get the flu shot. I doubt I will ever again get another flu shot.

This is an unfair question. Most of those wanting a flu shot this year won't be able to get one. Only the highest of high risk wil be able to be vaccinated due to major shortages. In other words, let's hope we don't have a season like the last one -- too many hospitalizations and deaths from the flu.
