KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- An attempt to recall Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser is over.
City Clerk Millie Crossland said Saundra Ross and the four other Kansas City voters informed her Tuesday that they have stopped their campaign. They were trying to collect 16,950 valid signatures by March 1.
In an e-mail to Crossland, Ross said the general consensus of the Kansas City populace was to give the mayor more time to fulfill his agenda.
The group filed an affidavit last month. They were upset with the appointment of Frances Semler, a member of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, to the city's park board, and Funkhouser's efforts to fire City Manager Wayne Cauthen.
Funkhouser has said he wasn't worried about the recall attempt.
