A Southeast Missouri State University student from Mehlville recently was named "Outstanding Student of the Year" by the Midwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (MACURH) during its annual conference.

Andrea Andonoff, a Southeast senior, received the honor for her involvement in regional and national conferences on residence hall life and for her exemplary work with the Residence Hall Association on campus, participation in and support of Hall Council programs and activities, and for her co-curricular involvement.

"I was totally shocked," Andonoff said. "I am excited. I can't even express how wonderful this is. It seems like all of the hard work I had done here in the residence halls has paid off."

The award, given earlier this month, recognizes Andonoff's outstanding commitment to Southeast's Residence Life program, the Residence Hall Association and the MACURH region, said Denise Davidson, assistant director of Residence Life.

"Andrea has been instrumental to our organization, residence life system and campus through her ongoing dedication and contributions," she added.

The MACURH region includes Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and the Canadian province of Manitoba.

The Residence Hall Association of Southeast Missouri State nominated Andonoff for the award.

Andonoff, daughter of Bess Andonoff, has been active in conferences on residence life, having attended the MACURH 1990 conference at Emporia State University and the National Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls 1991 conference at Arizona State University. She also served as a delegate to the MACURH 1991 conference at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

At each, Andonoff has presented programs and provided support for Southeast's activities.

In addition, Andonoff has helped prepare Southeast delegations for these conferences through her work on spirit and T-shirt committees and through her contributions as a team motivator.

Andonoff is a member of National Residence Hall Honorary and has been responsible for much of its new and current growth as an active organization on campus. She has been recognized by MACURH as "Advisor of the Month" and has received a similar award from Southeast as well. She also received Southeast's 1990-1991 "Advisor of the Year" award in which she competed against full-time professional staff.
