PORTAGEVILLE -- `Research and Extension for the 21st Century' will be the theme of the day-long, 30th annual Delta Center Field Day, to be held here Sept. 5.

Cotton production, corn and grain sorghum development, rice and soybean production are among topics to be discussed during the event.

Commercial agriculture and machinery displays will be exhibited, and farm safety demonstrations will be presented.

Also on display will be the University of Missouri's soybean oil-powered pick up truck.

Special guests will include Sen. Christopher S. Bond, Rep. Bill Emerson, Missouri Director of Agriculture Tim Kelley and University of Missouri curators.

More than 1,500 people are expected for the field day events.

Tours will start at 9 a.m. at the Lee Farm, about seven miles southeast of Portageville, at the Junction of Routes T and TT. Tour wagons will depart hourly, with the final tour at 1 p.m.
