Republicans claimed all the contested races in Bollinger County.

In the 2nd District commission race, Republican Steve Jordan defeated his Democratic opponent Andy "Bud" Wiesner. With all 14 precincts in, Jordan showed an unofficial win by a vote of 2,470 to 964.

"I am happy," Jordan said. "I think I'm going to like this job. I've worked for the people for 30 years in my county. People know me and have given me a vote of confidence. I want to do a good job and am looking forward to it."

Chief deputy Leo McElrath easily bested challenger James Galloway in the contest for sheriff. With all precincts counted, McElrath showed an unofficial victory by a vote of 4,286 to 1,404.

"I appreciate everybody's vote and help in getting this far," McElrath said. "I will try to make the sheriff's department more professional, give the deputies more training and more professionalism. I will be available for anyone who wants to contact me. Feel free to call and ask questions."

Republican Ronda Elfrink will not take office as assessor until September, when the state fiscal year begins. In the meantime, she said she plans to begin learning as much as she can about the office to provide a smoother transition when it's time to take over.

"I'll try to improve the process the efficiency and make the team work better," Elfrink said. "I am excited and very grateful that I have the support I had in the county."

With all precincts in, Elfrink was credited with 4,000 votes to Chester Hayes' 1,633.
