Report: Iran has 6,000 uranium centrifuges
TEHRAN, Iran -- An Iranian news agency reported that the country's president announced it now possesses 6,000 centrifuges used for enriching uranium. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the announcement Saturday in remarks before university professors in the northeastern city of Mashhad, according to the country's semiofficial Fars news agency. The government's uranium program can be used to develop nuclear energy or to build a bomb. Iran claims it wants to produce energy, but the U.S. and others are skeptical.
