At 4 p.m. Wednesday, a phone line was accidentally cut due to the construction at Southeast Missouri Hospital on Broadway. The severed line disrupted phone service intermittently throughout southern and western Cape Girardeau. Big River Telephone Company marketing coordinator Meredith White reported that both Big River and SBC customers were without phone service. Late Wednesday, SBC said it could not tell if the service had been restored. Repair crews were still working on the lines late Wednesday evening.
